New York City is one of the top rated destinations in the US, and can be very expensive and crowded but I have found a way to see the sights and sounds of NYC as a young adult while not stepping a single food in times square! You will walk A LOT to see the sights and for me I def won my FitBit competition for the weekend with Fitbit Charge 2 Heart Rate + Fitness Wristband, Black, Large. (order a size down they are quite large)
Rooftop Bar Views
Going out in NYC is way different than any other city, the nightlife doesn’t begin until about 11pm-12am, but it is part of the experience , so on my teacher schedule that was a hard life adjustment for the weekend but 100% worth it. One of the best views we had of the city was from the East Houston Hotel rooftop terrace. It wasn’t crowded at all and the drinks were reasonably priced (paid $10 for mine which I thought was a steal in the city). And the views were spectacular! I mean cmon, look at this photo.
Smorgasburg Flea and Food Market
My friend I was visiting told me about a new place she had heard that was a market so we checked it out. Took the metro supper easily over to Brooklyn and right next to the river was this GIANT food market going on. There were 50+ vendors selling all different types of food, drinks and desserts, it took us two walks around to figure out just what to eat. Being the breakfast lover I am I decided on this decadent breakfast skewer (it had quail eggs, cheese, bacon and a truffle sauce) can someone say yum?! We of course had to pair it with some wine.
The market snuggles right next to the river and the views are spectacular. Walking inside the market is free and next time I’m going to bring a picnic blanket and sit on the sand and enjoy my meal with a view even more.
The High Line
Being a yuppie in Atlanta, Georgia currently, the Beltline is what I spent my college years on, well New York fun fact came up with it first with the High Line. It is a public park that stretches miles across the city that is completely free to the public. I would describe it as a city trail that has lots of different art works shown and spectacular views of the city. A perfect place to catch up with a friend you were visiting which is exactly what I was doing. They also sometimes have street artists and performers on it which of course makes anything more entertaining. While it can be crowded with people on a nice day, it is way non-touristy compared to other places in the city.
Washington Square Park
Washington Square park is a well known park just like central park but it is in the heart of New York University. So many collegiate students were around studying, hanging out, eating lunch which was so nice to see in the middle of the city. Many musicians were there playing and street artists.
