Delightful Day in Dallas

My first stop of my road trip in Texas was Dallas. I’ll be honest, I came in not expecting much from Dallas but left loving the city and it being one of my favorite stops. Dallas reminded me lot of Atlanta and that might have been why I was drawn to it so much as the end. I only had 1 day lined up to see Dallas but I got to see a whole lot. Here is what I recommended doing:

Breakfast at Bread Winner’s Cafe and Bakery:

Migas Scramble at Breadwinners Cafe in Dallas

This bakery is a Dallas staple and I enjoyed every minute I was there. The location off of McKinney has an amazing atmosphere and I had great service. The menu is very affordable and the portions were huge!

Discover new worlds at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science:

Every big city has museums to go visit and Dallas is just like the rest of them. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is great place to learn about things inside and outside our earth you might have not known about. They had a lot of interactive exhibits even for adults which I liked. I recommend going with a friend and not alone to this museum because it will make it more fun. The only downside is the price, it is quite hefty. I don’t know if it was worth the $20 in my opinion but if you like science and nature it is a great place to visit.

Reminisce on History at the 6th Floor Museum

View from the assassination of JFK at the 6th Floor Museum

This was one of the coolest museums I have ever been too. I heard and learned about the JFK assassination, but to be in the exact place where it happened back in 1963 was very surreal. It was very informative and it really took me back in history. The best part is that they have teacher and student discounts so I only paid $10!

Grab T0-Go Tacos at Taqueria La Ventana and eat at Klyde Warren Park

When in Texas you have to grab some Tex-Mex or it wouldn’t be Texas. This little shop right in downtown is so affordably priced with some amazing food. They also have some very strong margaritas for less than $5. You can even grab some food to go which is what I recommend and snag a spot at Klyde Warren Park to take in the beautiful skyline.

View the Mastery at the Dallas Museum of Art

Beautiful paintings in the DOMA in Dallas

When trying to decide which touristy attractions to go to in Dallas there were a lot to choose from for a big city. I recommend the DMOA{as the locals call it} because first of all it is free! Secondly, they have every type of art from modern, to historical, to ceramics and they lay it out so perfectly. They always have special exhibits you can pay to see so it just depends on your style of art if you are interested in them or not.

Stroll the Katy Trail back Uptown

The beauty of the Katy Trail in downtown Dallas

Like I said earlier, one of the best parts about Dallas is how it mimicked Atlanta to me in many ways and that continues with the Katy Trail which reminded me of the Atlanta Beltline. Finishing up with your visits downtown, hop on the Katy trail for a nice stroll to get those steps in and some great views of the city. The best way to get on the trail is head onto North Houston Street and it goes right onto the trail. If you decide to enter the trail elsewhere make sure you check their website because there aren’t a ton of entry points!

Stop for a Drink and Snack at Katy Trail Ice House

Amazing sangria and queso at The Katy Ice Trail Bar

While strolling along the Katy Trail in the afternoon you must stop at this super fun spot for an hour or so. This awesome spot reminds me a lot of Ladybird in Atlanta, except this one is a little more casual and way more outdoor seating which I love. They have great drinks, snacks, meals, and giant tables for small and big groups of people to hang out. Make sure you can snag a table because it can be hard when it gets busy!

Snag More Tacos at Velvet Taco

By this point in the day you have been very busy and active and nothing will make happier than more Tex Mex. The spot you need to have for dinner is this amazing taco place recommended by almost all the locals. The parking here can be a little bit tricky because they don’t have many spots, but if you need to park down the road in a neighborhood and just walk! I didn’t love the breakfast taco, but I recommend the shrimp and grits and the Rotisserie chicken tacos.

Grab at drink at Reunion Tower

Delicious cocktail at the top of Reunion Tower

No better way to end your amazing day than with a great view of the city and a delicious drink. The Reunion Tower is a huge tourist attraction, but skip the tower and the lines and head to the top for a lovely drink with stellar views. The restaurant the bar is located at is called Five Sixty. The bar opens at 5pm and you don’t even need a ticket but you do need to make sure you look nice because they have a dress code. Since it’s the same elevator, expect around a 15-20 minute wait to get up! You can always call ahead of time and ask the wait time as well!

Dallas just like any other big city you won’t get to do every single attraction while you are there so I hope this list helps guide your next trip! Texas is a huge state with lots to visit and if you love big cities this should be on the top of your list!
