I have been to Houston a few times now and this city is a mix of many different cultures and ethnicities. Houston isn’t a city that is “known” for anything specific like other big cities but what it really needs to be known for is it’s delicious food. Houston is hub to many international businesses and obviously many oil companies, but wherever there is a diverse amount of people there is a wide variety of food as well. These are some of my best food stops for each meal of the day.
Breakfast:
#1: Laredo Taqueria
When you come to Texas you want to make sure and have some authentic cuisine and these breakfast tacos will do the trick. This local place is super affordable and they have every type of breakfast tacos you could imagine. They even have the traditional dishes like huevos racheros. The line order might be little long, but when you order you get your food immediately.
#2: The Breakfast Klub
Yes, the name of this place seems super un-original, but this local restaurant is unlike any other in the city. The line is always out the door but don’t worry it moves super fast. The inside has so much history and love built into it. Most of the options are above $10 but the portions are huge so you can make two meals out of it or take some home! This place has the best southern home cooking you could want.
Lunch:
#1: Torchy’s Tacos
This well known Taco chain began in Austin but it is all across the state of Texas and in Houston they taste just as heavenly! They have multiple locations to go to but parking is limited because they are always packed because they are that good. You’ve got to get the queso and my favorite tacos are the Fried Avocado, Mr. Pink and Mr. Orange.
#2: Pho Saigon and Pepper Twins
What a lot of people don’t know is that in Houston there is a large Asian population and some delicious food places can satisfy those cravings for that type of cuisine. Pho Saigon has the best Pho in the city and is very reasonably priced with less than $7 for a large bowl! For the best Chinese food in the city head to Pepper Twins. I am a sucker for fried rice so that is always my go to dish and this place does not disappoint.
Dinner:
#1: Pizaros Pizza
Wanting to have a exquisite Italian pizza but not wanting to buy a ticket to Italy, then look no further than Pizaros Pizzaria. This place has authentic Napoletana recipes and they even import some of the ingredients from Italy. The best part is that it’s made right in front of you and you can bring your own drinks (booze) to enjoy with it! Make sure you don’t forget your wine opener though! My Atlanta natives this is our Antico’s equivalent!
#2: El Tiempo Cantina
This restaurant might seem super touristy when you first walk up to it and I do not deny that, but the food and the drinks are some of the best in town. The best bang for your buck when you are in a group is the fajitas, which is what we did. I love getting the half-pound of the chicken and a half pound of the tuna to satisfy my cravings. With splitting these with a group of 4 it came out to $20 per person for the huge amount of food. The best part of the restaurant are the homemade tortillas. Obviously, you cannot leave it without getting a delicious margarita as well!
