How To Eat & Drink Your Way Through Milwaukee

This year I had the lovely joy of getting to visit a friend in Milwaukee for the weekend. Because it is Milwaukee and the winter time, it was still a bit chilly for all the fun activities the city has to offer in the summer. But even though the weather was cold, my stomach couldn’t have been happier when I left. I spent the whole weekend trying amazing restaurants and finding great places to have drinks between eating at those restaurants. These are my best recommendations:

Breakfast/Brunch:

Mouthwatering Tenderloin WaffleBrowns with a delicious drink special at Cafe Benelux

Cafe Benelux: This Belgium inspired restaurant captured my heart. The atmosphere is like nothing else in the city and they even have an amazing upper deck on beautiful days. They even have a BLUNCH (Brunch + Lunch) menu for those friends who don’t love eggs as much as I do.

Sweet Diner: A relatively new spot in the city that seems really fancy on the outside but is actually quite affordable on the inside. Delicious twist on the classics and delicious cocktails!

The beyond filling Wiscomelette {with cheese curds} at Brunch in Milwaukee

Brunch: Probably the most creative name ever given to a restaurant and immediately drew me in. The best part is we used the Yelp App get in line to save our spot on our walk over. When I say I wanted to order everything off the menu I am not exaggerating. Great homey atmosphere that reminds me of my childhood!

Lunch:

Milwaukee Public Market: There are so many great restaurants in the city, but I think the best place to get anything you want for a quick lunch is this market. Like any city market, there are many different places with all different types of cuisine. My go to reccomendations are the fish, cheese and wine {even thought it’s not technically a food}, but this place has it all!

Dinner:

Fantastic homemade empanadas with crispy fries from La Masa

La Masa: My friend took me here at almost 10pm at night after getting off a late flight and this restaurant changed everything I knew about empanadas. An amazing atmosphere, delicious sangria, and thin french fries that are to die for. Also having free parking near by what more could you ask for in a delicious restaurant?

Fixture Pizza Pub: In a super trendy part of town, this delicious pizza joint is worth the wait you might have. The best part about it, is that any of their pizzas you can make personal to cater to you! Also make sure you get the meatballs as the appetizer!

Drinks/Snacks:

Full-flavored home made cider in the heart of Milwaukee from Lost Valley

Lost Valley Cidery: Even thought Milwaukee is a city known for beer, this Cidery on the south side of town is one of the best one’s I’ve been too. Grab a spot at the bar and order a flight of 4 to try an amazing selection. I loved the fruit flavored ones but don’t go for the jalapeno one.

Lakefront Brewery: This is one of the most well known Brewery’s in the city right on the river. Make sure you book a tour early on the weekend early because they fill up , but it also gets you 4 tastings. But the real reason to go here is because they have the very best cheese curds in town. Go ahead and order two of them, and plan to spend an extra 30 minutes there enjoying them and the very family friendly atmosphere.

Hi Hat on Brady: A great bar in a super up and coming neighborhood of town. They have great cocktails, cool atmosphere and very walkable to other great parts of town!

Wisconsin Cheese Mart: Coming to the state where people wear cheese on their head, I had to try some of this famous cheese while I was in town. It’s a local shop right in the heart of downtown, and it has every type of cheese you could ever imagine. The best part, the amount of free samples!
