The second stop on my Texas spring break road trip after Dallas was to Waco. Of course, I have been watching Fixer Upper for the last 5-6 years like everyone else in the world so I had to stop by. I’ll be honest, it is a small town and you really don’t need to spend more than a full day there, I spent a little bit less.
Breakfast At Magnolia Table: This is of course the new restaurant that Chip and Joe created on one of their last seasons of their show. Since this is a huge tourist spot get there early! They don’t take reservations so it’s first come first serve. We went around 8-9 am and waited for about 15-20 minutes. It was 100% worth the wait. The food was delicious! A little bit pricier than a normal fast food place, but do it for yourself and order the lemon lavender donut holes.Cameron Park: A beautiful place to walk off breakfast before all the museums open up. There are TONS of trails near the river and it sort of depends what you like, trails or concrete. If you have kids it is the perfect place to cool off on a hot day!
Magnolia Silos: The main reason you most likely will be coming! Because it is a huge tourist trap they will try and nab you for parking. Don’t buy into it, just keep driving down 6th street there is plenty of free street parking you just have to walk a couple of extra blocks. The shop is every women’s dream to just walk around and take pictures of things you know you can’t afford but can aspire to. It’s free to go in and you can spend as little or as much time there as you want. Take this opportunity to snag lunch from one of the many food trucks on the lawn with live music.Silos Baking Company: To end your time at the Silos make sure you snag a sweet treat. The line outside the baking company is always super long but it does move very quickly. The cupcakes are super filling so only snag one or two instead of what your eyes are thinking {which is exactly what I did}.

Dr. Pepper Museum: I never knew that the heart of this company was founded in Waco and it was super cool to read and explore about in this museum. My just graduated friends, make sure you bring your college ID because you can save $4. Make sure you plan your timing around the Liquid Laboratory times because that is when you get to actually taste the different types of Dr. Pepper. Probably spend maybe about an hour here! Free parking as well!
Waco Suspension Bridge: Wanting to take a stroll through Waco history, this bridge and the surrounding park give you just that. It draws your eye to it when you come through downtown and it’s worth walking around before you leave!
Spice Village: This super cool market is full of TONS of cute boutiques and shops that make you want to buy things that you don’t necessarily need. But, it is worth your time to go visit. Free street parking as well!
YogaPod Waco: If you are staying in Waco over night and love working out, you for sure need to check out this place. Your first week is free so your first class is also free and you get a free mat as well. The hot yoga classes will get your sweating everything off your body, and if you can get into the hip hop hot yoga one do it! Such a unique yoga experience!
What I really learned from my time in Waco though is that the show Fixer Upper has mixed reviews inside the city limits. Although tourism is up drastically because the show created the beautiful homes, unfortunately the property value has been driven up. This means that many people who used to live in Waco have now been driven out of their homes. This happens in many cities all across the world and it is really sad but just something to consider when going through it!
